Chartered by the Self Family Foundation, Self Regional Healthcare opened in 1951 and has been the foundation’s largest single project. It is now a major regional hospital. Self Regional Healthcare’s services now include the area’s only Heart Center, Women’s Center, Cancer Center, Rehabilitation Center (offering stroke, cardiac, and pulmonary rehabilitation), Vascular Center, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and neurosurgery, neurology, gastrointestinal and orthopedic services.

A comprehensive outpatient diagnostic center, as well an Ambulatory Care Center, is easily accessed in a stand-alone facility on the hospital’s campus. The new Imaging Center presents the latest diagnostic imaging services and the area’s only PET scanner and open-air MRI. Emergencies are treated in a Level III trauma center and 24-hour emergency care center.

Self Regional is also committed to quality primary care, serving as a teaching facility for a renowned three-year postgraduate medical residency program in family medicine through the Medical University of South Carolina and the Statewide Family Practice program.

The health status of people who live throughout the area is a key focus for Self Regional. Wellness Works, the hospital’s state-of-the-art health and fitness facility, supplies numerous classes, preventative programs, body training, aerobic and yoga classes, and the most modern fitness equipment. Community outreach programs, support groups, and community health information services are important initiatives to improve everyone’s health.

Stepping outside the walls of Self Regional Healthcare, Greenwood has much more to present residents in the medical arena. There are dozens of physicians and practices in such areas as obstetrics and gynecology, sports medicine, neurology, plastic surgery, psychiatry, family medicine, internal medicine, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, infertility, radiology, and more.

Designed solely for the provision of specialized rehabilitative care, Greenwood Regional Rehabilitation Hospital is the only freestanding acute rehabilitation hospital in Greenwood. The facility’s unique design fosters a comfortable and responsive environment for patients. The hospital provides rehabilitative services for patients with functional deficits as a result of debilitating illnesses, or injuries. Through inpatient rehabilitation programs, patients recover quickly and return home with a renewed sense of self-sufficiency.
